Wet'n Wild Max Volume Plus Mascara

Wet n Wild mascaras are not really familiar to me. I haven't heard much about them and what I did wasn't all that positive. I got this mascara to test, again it's a regular formula, which is not for my straight lashes, but my review might still help those who wear such mascaras.

Wand: it has a plastic wand that has a tapered design which is similar to L'Oreal's Intenza mascara. It has longer bristles at the top and very short at the end. Such a design makes it easy to catch the smallest lashes, but without getting messy chunks of mascara on them. As a result of that it's a very defining mascara.

Formula is unimpressive from the start. It's very thin and all was able to do was just tint the lashes, so I left it open for a few hours to speed up the thickening process and it of course got a lot better. It even started making some decent volume, but it takes three coats. I haven't experienced any smudging or flaking, but I don't tend to have problems like that anyway.

To keep it short and simple, it's a mascara for those who love definition. You still get a nice amount of volume after it's thickened, but since it's a regular mascara, it doesn't hold a curl. A waterproof formula exist as well, it's just not available here.

L'Oreal Superstar False Lash Mascara and Super Slim Eyeliner

Even I haven't missed the heavy advertisement campaign for the new Superstar mascara and eyeliner, and I always skip commercials when watching tv. Mascara is a two-part one and they've had such mascaras before, but I'm not sure if those had fibres or not. The eyeliner is already more innovative. It features a very interesting spear-like nib that is bendy.

False Lash Superstar Mascara

I won't beat around the bush - I intensely disliked this mascara from the start. It made my lashes look messy, not clumpy, but just every lash was going into its own direction. As a great majority of mascaras, it improved over the next weeks and it became a lot easier to deal with. But it's still a regular formula mascara that doesn't hold curl, so it's like it does nothing for me. 

False Lash Superstar Mascara is made out of two parts: the white primer coat and the black mascara. The white primer tints the lashes white at first, but it dries a lot less intense shade. It gives a lot of volume, though it's difficult to see due to it being white. The brush of the primer part has a hourglass shape. 

The black part feels thinner, but I can see the fibres on the brush, which actually has a different shape than white and it's a curved design. It doesn't feel like there are a ton of fibres inside, like at Asian mascaras, but they have fallen in my eyes a couple of times and it really wasn't pleasant. The black mascara part covers all the white bits on the lashes and makes them super black. 

The finally effect is very volumising, truly the volume is very impressive especially when it's been opened for a few weeks, but the lashes aren't defined enough for my taste. Through the day it lasts well, I didn't get any smudging or flaking, but fibres did fall in my eyes, which made them water and then of course mascara did smudge. I tried the primer with a very defining regular formula mascara that has a plastic comb and it started to look a bit spidery, so I wasn't happy with the result.

Due to it being a regular formula, my lashes of course drop immediately with it and since it's such a lengthening and volumising mascara, my lashes keep hitting my glasses, occasionally making an actually scratchy noise. Seriously, am I the only one with this problem when I wear regular formulas? But what I'm very bothered by is that this mascara appears to be almost oily or something, since I need to clean my glasses ever 15 minutes when wearing this. Very annoying.

Since I find regular formulas unimpressive, I gave the mascara to other people to test. It did not receive a very enthusiastic response, I'm afraid. Still if you liked the previous versions, you might like this one as well, since I assume it's very similar.

Super Liner Superstar 

They eyeliner is already more my cup of tea. I've tried tons felt tip eyeliners so far, these type of liners are some of my favourite makeup products and I currently have four new ones and two that are on their lasts legs, but this one has definitely the most unique tip I've ever tried. 

It's shaped like a spade or spear and is one of the largest of the slim eyeliner versions I've seen. The clipped base makes the nib bendy, so it feels more comfortable to use than a regular stiff felt tip applicator. However, the whole applicator is quite big, so it's difficult to get a very thin line. Out of the four new ones I have, I like this shape best for creating flicks, but they aren't completely sharp.

Formula is the same as at their Perfect Slim version, which remains one of my favourites. It's black, smooth and lasts nicely on my normal lids, except the flicks disappear by the end of the day. It has a semi-matte finish, which I much prefer to the glossy Stila one.

It's not the cheapest, but also not the most expensive eyeliner, so it's still acceptably priced for me, but it also depends on how long the tip will stay saturated. I think that if I needed a new good eyeliner fast, this is the one I'd get in our drugstores. It's reliable, easy to use and available everywhere (we don't have the Perfect Slim one here, but that one would be my first choice if we did because of the smaller nib), so it would be my first choice, while Essence would be for a cheap option and Artdeco for a splurge, since I love the applicator on that one.

Revlon Ultra Volume Mascara Waterproof

So Revlon did the unthinkable and discontinued ALL of their mascaras. I just hope you didn't have any of them as your ultimate favourite, though to be fair this was a considerably tamer move than Essence and Catrice  put us through every six months. They decided to simplify their mascara system, so no flashy names and tubes, just a basic selection of five mascaras, each with a different colour of cap, wand and formula. I like their approach of taking it all to the basics, mascara names have become ridiculous anyway (looking at you Too Faced),  but I'm wondering how long will they stick to it and not be tempted to do a the new launch of fancy mascara, which inevitably brings more money than boring tubes. I got to try Ultra Volume version with the pink cap and a waterproof formula (regular exists as well, of course), but I would actually name it Ultra Definition.  

Wand: The wand is a classic one, but thick and with very dense bristles. It's a standard wand shape for a mascara that promises volume, however, unlike most such mascaras I've tried this one excels at definition. The brush manages to catch every eyelash, but doesn't coat it with a ton of product. It behaves pretty much like a standard plastic wand mascaras. However, please note that the regular formula may perform differently as waterproof mascaras are drier than regular ones. 

Formula: As I said this is waterproof formula and therefore drier than regular mascaras which means you don't get tons of product on the lashes, but instead each lash is lengthened, defined and still enough natural looking to fool someone less makeup-savvy into thinking you're not wearing anything on your lashes. In terms of effect it reminds me of my old favourite, L'Oreal Million Lashes, except this one has a great waterproof formula that keeps my lashes perfectly curled all day. Normally I wear more volumising mascaras like Essence I Love Extreme that give me absolutely massive lashes, but I really like this one. It's got such a great defining effect that screams: "ofcourse my natural lashes look so great". The fact it holds a curl so well is another big plus in my books. It's also less difficult to remove than most waterproof formulas.

At 10.49 € per tube it's not the cheapest mascara, but if you're looking for a good waterproof formula that has a very natural, defining effect, this one is lovely to try. I actually started using it as a base coat, so I curl the lashes, apply a bit of this mascara first because it defines so well and then I add a more volumising mascara on top. It works brilliantly that way, but I also like wearing this one on its own. Mine is from Click2Chic, where is might be a bit cheaper than in the shops (I don't know, but Colorstay foundation is), but Revlon is sold in drugstores here too.

Jordana Best Lash Extreme Mascara

If you spend any time watching Youtube tutorials, praises of this mascara may not have escaped your notice, but it's not just individuals singing it praises, it also has a very high rating on Makeup Alley where is very uncommon for a mascara to have a rating above 4.0. I'm not one for regular formulas, I say that so often that I have a feeling someone will write it on my tombstone one day, but I wanted to test this one because I thought some might be interested in it. 

Wand: It has the most basic, old school wand that really doesn't look like anything special. But to me, these are some of the best ones (like at Lancome Hypnose). It's not the best at defining, it's more for volume, as is usual for such brushes.

Formula: This is the type of mascara that performs well from the moment you open it. It's among the wetter formulas and it gives a lot of volume and length, but gets even better as it thickens with time. This is a mascara for those who love massive lashes.  Because it's so wet from the start, there is bound to be some mess, so application should be done with a bit more care and very importantly with patience to avoid any clumped bits. Pieces don't fall off during the day, it doesn't flake nor smudge (after it dries on the eyelashes), but don't cry with it. In general it stays on well. It doesn't manage to keep my lashes curled, though I heard some reviews say it's good at these thing, but my lashes drop almost immediately with this one, as I expected considering it's a regular formula and a very wet one at that. The best regular formula mascara I found that isn't a complete disappointment when it comes to holding lashes is Physician's Formula Va Va Voom.

I get the hype of this mascara. It's a volume bomb, just like some Essence mascaras and its very affordable abroad. It's very basic looking, but it delivers. Since it a regular formula it's also easy to remove. After over a month it's still quite wet, meaning it will probably last a very long time, however, it is still a bit messy, so not a mascara I would put on in a hurry.

TheBalm What's Your Type? Mascara "the body builder"

I honestly had no idea theBalm even had mascaras. I've never heard anyone talking about them, but it's kind of obvious that they would have them. There are two versions of "What's your type?" mascaras and I got the volumising one called "the body builder". I don't have the box, but I think there is an actually body builder on it. You may know by now that regular formula mascaras aren't my favourite and to be fair neither is this one, but not everyone has the same preferences as me, so this review is for all those who are interested in such mascaras.

This is such an old school mascara with a basic brush and it doesn't have any special design. I don't think that definition was considered when designing the brush and it is indeed not the best at that, the primary focus is on the volume. I use an old mascara wand to comb the lashes after application, but that's because I'm a fan of a more defined look. The formula is very wet and thick, which means it can clump the lashes together and get messy. I prefer formulas to be almost dry because they perform best on my lashes like that, so I let the mascaras sit for a while before I commit to use them. This one does give a lot of volume and it's a very black formula, so if you're a fan of wet formulas that give you a lot of volume, this one might be worth checking out.

My lashes of course drop like a rock with this mascara, so I had a lot of problems actually taking a picture of it, as my lashes were so low, it looks like I have only half of my lashes, but if you don't have such problems like me, this obviously won't be an issue for you. 

This just wasn't made for me. I have very high standards when it comes to mascaras and holding a curl is at the top of my list, so a regular formula mascara has yet to truly win me over and this one clearly didn't. It's not a bad mascara, but also not mind-blowingly amazing. It's predominantly a volusiming mascara with a thick, wet formula which fails at definition and the latter is one of my top preferences when looking for mascara. I love TheBalm, they have amazing products and it's quickly become of one my favourite brands, but this mascara did not wow me.

Physicians Formula Eye Booster Instant Lash Extension Kit

A mascara I had for months now, with a review almost finished and I have a perfectly legit reason for not posting it (explained why in my Sexy Wear Va Va Voom mascara review last week), but anyway, here is it now . It's fibre mascara made out from two components -  a thick classic mascara and dry fibres. This is the most difficult mascara to use I've ever tried, I spent a week trying to get it right and I got everything from a downright horrendous result to a perfect one. So my review is going to be almost like a little manual on how to use it for best result. To get the important question out of the way - does it even work? Yes, it does. But I think it would have a much more impressive result on short, stubby lashes. Mine are already long and I don't really need a lot, so I don't really use it often because it really is so much work to make it look good and of course, it's not waterproof, so it doesn't hold a curl on my lashes.

As I said this mascara comes in two parts. You need to use the regular mascara part first so the fibres have something to stick to. It's a very thick, sticky mascara which is very prone to clumping, but it needs to be like that otherwise the fibres do not stick (I tried them with a different mascara and it didn't really work). It's very important you apply the fibres on a fresh, wet coat of mascara. If you don't they don't stick and go everywhere. If they fall into the eye, it's soo painful, so listen to my advice and work fast. Once the fibres are applied, seal them with another coat of regular mascara. Make sure they are all coated because if you don't, they tend to fall off during the day. Stick to one coat of fibres, I tried two and got the most horrible properly spidery lashes.  

The fibres add both volume and length, but on my lashes I don't feel that the amount of added length is that significant. I think it would be a lot more dramatic on short lashes. Fibres will fall off during application, so keep a powder brush on hand or apply the rest of the make up after mascara. You're applying something a lot more substantial than just mascara, plus a very wet, thick mascara on which the fibres stick, so it can get messy. Contact lens wearers this is not a mascara for you because just one fibre destroys the lens (speaking from experience, this sticks to it like glue). 

The packaging is pretty basic. The mascara has a classic slightly curved wand and the fibre one is another classic one, but you can't really see the bristles over the fibres. 

A little comparison of two Physician's Formula mascaras, Extension Kit and their Sexy Wear Va Va Voom mascara. There is a difference, but I prefer Va Va Voom because it's so much easier to use, the effect you get it much more defined and there are no fibres that might fall into my eye. However, my cousin adores Lash Extension and she always asks me if she can use it. She says it's the best mascara she ever used and never complained about any falling fibres. 

I read reviews about this mascara and they are very polarised, but it seems to me that mostly girls with short, stubbly lashes like it and I get why. If you happen to have such lashes, this might be worth giving a go, I, on the other hand, find it difficult to work with and I am a women of little patience, but the results are there, that's undeniable. Once you master the application, you get some nice results.

Physicians Formula Sexy Booster Va Va Voom Volume Mascara

I've had this mascara for several months now and it's actually almost dry, but for a time this was by far my most used mascara, despite my love for waterproof formulas. I would post it sooner, but I waiting for it to be posted on the other blog I write at. Why they decided not to post it, maybe they forgot, I don't know, but I'm not wasting a good review. Waterproof formulas are challenging to remove and even though regular formulas don't perform as well on my lashes as those, I use them when I want to give my lashes a break, though I must admit to you that I haven't actually purchased a regular mascara in years (and yet I currently have four). This mascara is absolutely stunning to look at, but the formula inside is pretty impressive as well, in fact so much that it managed to wow my cousin who absolutely hates mascaras with a plastic brush and that tells something (though she loves the Eye Booster Instant Lash Extension even more. I have a review ready of that one too). I already featured it one of my monthly favourites and I think that so far, this is the best regular formula mascara I used as far as my preferences go, but it has its little faults.

The brush is an oval thick one with short bristles. It's very similar to Max Factor's False Lash Effect (or Cover Girl Lash Blast) and it's another one that is a bit scratchy on my eyes, however, a lot less than Max Factor's, which I basically can't even use. I would prefer a regular brush, but I can put up with this one. 

The formula is thin from the start, but after a week or so it thickens and it gives an amazing amount of volume. It's the type of mascara with which you get a pretty natural result with one coat, but two or three give you big, glamorous lashes similar to Essence's Princess Lash, but unlike at that one, my lashes don't just drop down. It manages to lift my lashes a little bit, half way at most, but it's a lot more than any other regular mascara ever managed. This effect only started after the mascara was already a little bit drier, as long as it's new and wet, it won't hold a curl. I took the pictures in the first week when I got it because I felt like I need to hurry with the review, but the amount of volume almost doubled later. 

The packaging was clearly designed to impress. It's a mix of a red metallic effect with black lace and red velvet details. For the final touch they included a mini silver stiletto with a black bow. I think it's stunning. A black version with red lace exists as well with a different plastic brush. I'm thinking about trying that one as well, even though it's not waterproof.

It does have a downside, which is actually typical for plastic brush mascaras, and that is that it dries out fast. I got it in mid-September and it was almost dry in about three-four months.

This is a mascara that kind of fits all tastes. With one coat you get natural, defined lashes, while two or three coats bump up the volume to the max and give you huge lashes. It's an expensive mascara (even abroad) and you can get a similar one for less money. That being said, it the only regular mascara that didn't make my lashes drop like a rock. It has the whole package -  a great formula with a gorgeous packaging, though I feel for most people it will be more like an occasional treat or lovely gift item rather than something they'll regularly repurchase.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara

Since its release this mascara has received a fair amount of attention. I've read quite a few of very positive reviews of both the regular and waterproof formula, but in general its rating on Makeup Alley is average, still I was itching to try it, especially since I heard this was close enough to Benefit's Roller Lash. We only have regular formula in Slovenia (if I don't count the online shop Salma, which got it recently) and I had the hardest time finding a waterproof version for months, until it magically appeared on Look Fantastic. I was so unimpressed by this mascara the first week, but things took a dramatic turn and now it's in my top three.

Brush: It has a plastic curved brush that has short bristles on the inner part of the curve and longer on the outside. I think I used it wrong at first as I used the short bristles side first, but it's much better if you use it in the reverse order. The longer bristles comb and separate the lashes, while the short bristles deposit the product and add volume.

Formula: As I said things were really bumpy from the start. I was almost at the point of hating it. The formula was too thin, but at the same time it stuck the lashes together, so it gave the appearance of half less lashes than I have. Then on a completely random 8th day of use, it got fabulous. It  now makes my lashes absolutely huge, adequately separated, long and with tons of volume. It behaves like a mascara that doesn't have a plastic comb. No idea what made this switch, but now I love it. This mascara holds curls like nobody's business. It's in the rank of Lancome's Hypnose and Essence's I Love Extreme waterproof, however, it makes the lashes more stiff than the two. In fact so stiff that I have to use an eyelash curler otherwise it's quite painful for me, since I wear glasses a lot and the lashes hit the glass, so they need to be either soft or very curled (such a stupid problem, but it's the reason I started curling my lashes at a very young age). The formula is classically very black, but be careful not to get this on the skin or do the makeup afterwards because it's difficult to clean off (almost impossible without an oil-based remover). It lasts forever on the lashes and doesn't smudge at all.

Price: Mine is from Look Fantastic where it was €11.26. 

I think it's a great mascara once it's opened for a while, but it's no smooth sailing from the start as at Essence I Love Extreme. I still love the latter more than this one, not just because of the price, but because it's amazing the moment you open it and it gives some pretty fabulous lashes. But Lash Sensational definitely gets top marks from me, especially because it manages to hold a curl on my stubborn lashes, plus I love the fabulous volume and length it gives to my lashes. Some real great stuff here and I wouldn't be surprised if I end up repurchasing it (especially if Essence discontinues I Love Extreme out of the blue).
